348 Unfinished Business

February 14, 2009

I fell a little behind on everything this week so it’s not a regular show. But just because it’s not the usual stuff doesn’t mean we can’t clean house and talk about some great ideas for upcoming episodes and give away some schwag!!

Thanks to Milescraft & ZEM for this week’s Schwag giveaway!!

I like the idea you have of the Buck Bros. plane. Early in my woodworking I bought the same one. I was about to throw it away but I tuned it to be somewhat usable. I later found out that it is the joke of planes. I finally used a Lee Valley at a woodworking show and now know why everyone loves them but they are still a bit out of my price range. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Hey Matt…………looking forward to Hendrik!!!!! I’m with Bill up above and the secondary plane, to see what I was missing (and I found out for myself….nothing), I went through the whole 9 tuning up my old, old smoother and jack, never really got them to work properly and moved on. The smoother will go back to what it has been used for over the past 12 years, knocking unibond 800 squeeze out off the edges of my mdf panels out of the vac press, every tool does a good job at some operation.

    Hey Matt-
I like your ideas for upcoming shows.
I had a question about your dye match. You said that you dyed some poplar to match cherry. Over time, won’t the cherry darken and the difference between it and the dyed poplar become more obvious? Is there a way around that?
