364 Hand Applied Finishing with Hendrik Pt. 2

June 2, 2009

For this month’s visit with our very own guest expert Hendrik. We’re wrapping up our 3 part mini-series on finishing by discussing hand-applied finishes and finishing techniques.

It’s safe to say that hand application of a finish is the most common method being used by home shop/small shop woodworkers.

Whether it’s applying a traditional penetrating oil such as tung oil or a topcoat such as lacquer, there are steps that can make the difference between a great result and one you wish had never applied.

Coming up in June, Hendrik will be back for one more episode before our Summer hiatus in July. This is an open question and answer show, so if there’s something we haven’t talked about or something you’d like clarified email us with your question.

If you’re interested in finding out more about starting your own woodworking business Hendrik’s annual “Starting A Woodworking Business” seminar is June 6th, 2009. There’s still a couple more openings available if you can make it. Contact him at info@passionforwood.com.

  1. Ken F says:

    Fantastic show Matt’s Basement Workshop,
Again the best gets better, this two part series on finishing was entertaining, informative and with expert detail that can only happen with Matt Vanderlist and Hendrik Varju.
When you two get together it’s like a taking test but having all the answers written in the palm of your hand (so I cheated) and its free.
The broad topic was covered beautifully, it was like finding missing pieces of a puzzle,
I see going back to this pod cast as a reference time and time again.

Thanks! I knew when we first talked about doing something like it, it’d be a huge hit. You should see the notes I have!!

  2. Al says:
