Let’s admit it, track saws are pretty sweet tools. It’s hard for me to imagine a home woodworker who doesn’t have a circular saw up on the shelf that gets used primarily for breaking down sheet goods. And while they’re worth their weight in exotic lumber (for me that’s Pennsylvania Cherry), they have their limitations.
Track saws take what a circular saw can do and elevate it to the next level. No more rigging up straight edges that bow over long lengths. No more saw slightly pulling away from the straight edge and ruining the cut line. Then you throw in it’s ability to cut odd angles easily, the fact that you’re not guessing exactly where the cut is going to occur or whether it’ll splinter the surface…
Do you get the impression that I really like it? But for me the most important question that needs to be asked is “does every shop need one?” You’ll have to watch to find out.
