Happy Memorial Day 2015 – Thank you to those who served!

May 25, 20152 Comments

3-day weekends are amazing and very welcomed, but before we fire up the grill and enjoy this extra day to be with family and friends (or in the shop considering we’re all woodworkers) let’s take the time to remember why we celebrate Memorial Day in the first place.

Please take the opportunity to thank our service members for the sacrifices they’ve made for us over the years. Regardless of which branch of service they belong to, what duties they performed or whether they’re a veteran or active duty, their sacrifices great and small are what make our world a safer place.

Happy? Memorial Day is for remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Perhaps there’s a better way of paying respect to those who gave their all and those who loved them.
We also have separate days for honoring veterans (Veterans Day) and thanking those who are currently serving our country (Armed Forces Day).

Please note that ” The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” – Thomas Jefferson. Let’s live our lives in such a manner that we honor all these patriots and their families every day.

Ray by no means do I mean any form of disrespect to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom by using the word “Happy.” Is Memorial Day a day of reflection and remembering for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice? YES! Your assumption that I don’t understand it’s significance is pretty bold and EXTREMELY WRONG!

There isn’t a year that goes by that we as a nation aren’t reminded of the ultimate sacrifice brave men and women have made for us. So if my use of the word “Happy” offends you, that’s too bad!

Memorial day is very much a celebration of the memory of each and every one of them. On this day we honor and pay tribute to their sacrifice by coming together to remind ourselves what their sacrifices helped to insure…our freedom, our way of life, and also our HAPPINESS to continue living everyday the way we choose to.

Don’t ever make the assumption that I don’t appreciate those who serve to protect us!
