Christmas is almost here and I have a feeling some of you probably haven’t done any gift shopping for that woodworker on your list! Or perhaps as a woodworker yourself, your family still doesn’t know what to get you and time is running out really fast.
No need to worry, because I have a few gift suggestions for the digital woodworker on your list (or if you want to treat yourself) this year:
Online woodworking education was scoffed as a “flash in the pan” not that long ago. After all, could you really seriously learn anything from someone online? Fast-forward to 2012 and online schools are popping up all over the place. I feel very privileged to co-host Wood Talk with two of the online woodworking school pioneers. So let’s start there:
He’s the first and the original online woodworking “school” offering out there. It’s not called a school, but with a membership in Marc Spagnuolo’s Wood Whisperer Guild you practically get all the benefits of one just without the pesky roll-call or early morning classes!
Ever thought of building something without using your power tools or perhaps you “inherited” an old hand tool from a family member and had no idea how to use it? Shannon Rogers’ The Hand Tool School is the place to go online to get an education in how to use all those old AND new hand tools you’ve seen the cool kids playing with.
If online schools aren’t your thing, but DVDs, books, plans or digital downloads of DVDs, books or plans are…then a great place to find all those things just for woodworkers is Shop Woodworking. This is the online store for all the great content coming from Popular Woodworking Magazine.
I know a lot of you are using your iPhones and iPads to download my own show, to read new issues of magazines, watch videos and all that good stuff. Here’s a few ideas that can be downloaded directly onto those devices!
Still not sure what to get them??? How about just some gift certificates from their favorite woodworking stores?
