Return of Router Bit of the Month?

You didn’t read the title of this post wrong, THAT’S RIGHT…ROUTER BIT OF THE MONTH IS BACK!!!

It’s been a couple of years since the last router bit of the month giveaways, but it’s time to bring back one of the most popular features ever at Matt’s Basement Workshop.

Thanks to the folks over at Precisionbits.com, who recently gave us a great router bit set to giveaway in 2012, we’re bringing RBM back, and one of you lucky schwag entrants will have a chance to win a brand new router bit each month!

So this is the way it’ll work. Each month the folks at Precisionbits.com will let me know what router bit they want to giveaway and I’ll then post an article letting all of you know what’s up for grabs. Sometimes when we’re working on a project on the show and there’s a profile that would be perfect for it, we may see THAT as the profile for the month.

Because I know so many of you enjoy seeing videos of the profile in action, I’ll do my best to shoot a short video of the most common tasks that can be performed with the bit, but for sure there will be pictures and links back to Precisionbits.com just in case it’s a profile you really want to add to your collection. So with that said, let’s introduce our first ROUTER BIT OF THE MONTH for 2013!

This month it’s the “TRIPLE FLUTE MOLDING BIT” a nice decorative profile for recreating a three flute trim great for around doors, windows or anywhere you want to add it to give your project a column like look.

The body of the cutters is 1-1/4″ high, consists of three evenly spaced 3/16″ radius profiles, 1/2″ shank and is carbide tipped. This is a router bit you’ll want to chuck up in your router table with a couple of featherboards to help guarantee the stock stays flat to the fence and thus your profiles are uniform each and every time. And for even better results, along with avoiding excessive wear and tear on your router or the bit itself, take a couple of passes to reach the desired depth for a flawless surface.
