I’ve been producing content steadily since 2006 and it’s amazing how fast the last 6 years have flown by. If I’m lucky, I’ll be saying something very similar in 14 more years when the 20th anniversary of Matt’s Basement Workshop Podcast rolls around. But as much as I’d love to see that happen, I’ll just take it one year at a time for right now.
Regardless of whether my show reaches a milestone like its twentieth anniversary or its thirtieth, I doubt it could ever cover the breadth of topics and wealth of knowledge Roy Underhill has presented to us since the first episode of The Wood Wright’s Shop over 30 years ago.
For those of you who have ever had a chance to meet Roy in person, be it at an event such as Woodworking in America, a class at his school or wherever you happen to have crossed paths, Roy has an energy and enthusiasm that’s contagious.
If it’s only for a quick hello or to snap a picture, chances are, in that brief exchange Roy will sneak in a quick tidbit and lesson that you’ll never forget.
In case you’ve missed the recent announcements. In an exclusive deal with Public Television, Popular Woodworking is making DVDs and instant streaming of The Wood Wright’s Shop a reality.
Currently the first three full seasons of The Woodwright’s Shop are available now and very soon, one of Roy’s reportedly favorite seasons – season 20 – will also be available, and even more seasons are to be added later.
To help get you in the mood for what a classic show and how much wit, wisdom and woodworking knowledge has ebbed and flowed through The Wood Wright’s Shop (not to mention a great deal of Roy’s blood) checkout this free, full-length video highlighting some of Roy’s favorite moments on the show. This episode originally aired as part of the 20th Anniversary season, which is currently available on DVD and soon (as this is being posted) for download.

And please remember, if you use the link above to purchase them, you’ll not only be gaining a wealth of woodworking knowledge but you’ll be helping Matt’s Basement Workshop at the same time.
Who knows, you may be the reason MBW does hit that twentieth anniversary?
